I was sitting watching GMTV news yesterday and they ran a feature on the Dunkirk evacuation. It showed archive footage of the soldiers arriving back in Britain.
Imagine how I felt when I caught a fleeting glance of my father, looking at the camera with a cigarette in his mouth. He was the only one among a crowd of many who was not wearing the traditional tin helmet. He wore a 'cheesecutter' as he referred to it, as he was a motor bike dispatch rider.
I have dropped an email off to GMTV, so hopefully I'll get a response to my enquiry re the film clip. It truly was a strange feeling seeing my father who sadly passed away over thirty years ago.
'Old Soldiers Never Die'.........never a truer word.

Got a call today from GMTV, they do not have copyright to the clip shown (as I thought might be the case).
Seems I need to make contact with Reuters, which will be my next step.

Well, I found the clip on You Tube, and it is definately my father, albeit a very fleeting glance.
I'll try and get someone to post a still on the board (I don't know how to)
It was really satisfying to track it down, and I feel really proud to have seen my old man doing his best for King and country, even though it was a hasty retreat.
'Old Soldiers Never Die'....................never a truer word right enough.
Happy days.

That must have been wondeful Peter seeing a glimpse of your dad, albeit a fleeting one. Watched some of the Dunkirk Evacuation on You Tube, it was horrendous what those guys went through.

Well done Peter.
I can only begin to imagine how you feel.
Looking forward to seeing the Still.
Could you not give the Youtube link and identify with the time, ie. 34.5 seconds ?

Well done Peter. I can only begin to imagine how you feel. Looking forward to seeing the Still. Could you not give the Youtube link and identify with the time, ie. 34.5 seconds ? Yes of course Andy. It's titled Images of Dunkirk and my father appears at 1.40 to 1.42. He is bottom right smoking a fag. He is not wearing the usual tin hat, but a flat type cap, as he was a dispatch rider

Thanks Carol and Andy.
You can imagine the stir this has caused in the family.
I shouted through to my son the other day 'C'mon see yer Papa'
My son was born after my father had passed away, but he was enthralled by those two seconds of film.

Florida Georgia Line is my favourite contry band. Headliners Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard are those people that could make anyone sing along. It's the reason I like to attend their concerts. And - that's surprisingly beatiful - in 2019 they have CAN'T SAY IT AIN'T COUNTRY TOUR which covers all the US towns and cities. For concert info visit Florida Georgia Line Concerts 2019.
