Clearing out the attic I came across a book from1915 " In Kilt And Khaki" by Thomas M Lyon , [Private Leo] It recounts the authors experiences. joining up for the 1914-18 war, parading in Glasgow Green, being shipped to France and sent to the Front. It tells of the cameraderie and and cheerfulness of the young recruits and the realisation of the horrors of war. If anybody wants the book they are welcome to have it. Ixus2

Many thanks Frank I appreciate it and will give it a good home. My grandfather William Bulloch was in the 9th (Glasgow Highlanders) during the Great War.

We had a Bulloch family lived on the top floor of 4 Palace Street - any relation? (Daughter Isobel would be about 65 now I think)

(Daughter Isobel I think) I have a wee feeling they might have been from the islands - ah'll be speaking to her later, and bring you up to speed. I don't think they had anything to do with my family Jawbox...our family were from Portadown, Northern Ireland via Dreghorn to Ravel Row originally. There was a Bulloch on the Dux board at Newlands sadly I never got a photo of it before it was painted over when I was based in Newlands some 15 years ago.

She confirmed Isobel Bulloch was indeed the Dux at Newlands so that would be around '56 or '57, she was 2 years older than me and I left there in '59.
