39 years ago today, three young Scottish Solders were murdered in Northern Ireland. Their names are, Dugald McGaughey and brothers John & Joseph Mc Caig from Ayrshire. They will never be forgotten, RIP. Dugald was a classmate of mine when we were both at Braeside Primary School in Castlemilk. Weanie. I remember it well and this year there will be a memorial built in their memory. Over the last year we have been selling badges to raise funds for this memorial which the British Army are avoiding getting involved with but have no fear there will be a large turn out of former and present members of the Royal Highland Fusiliers present when it is unveiled. Badges are still available if you require any please contact me and I will get them for you. Lest We Forget

PS I knew you and blueron would not forget today but I just wanted to leave a reminder of my own. I was also sent a few text messages as well Weanie to remind me. After all these years these murders still evokes a lot of bitterness amongst many Scots but goes un-noticed by the Scottish media...which is hardly surprising is it.

Charlie, Where is the memorial being built? Is there some kind of public appeal for funding, if so could you post the postal address. I`d like a badge, but how do I pay for it from India? Regards, Davie.

The badges have been sold out for months but from what I am told they are awaiting a new order for them as they are in such demand...contact Sandy at this link and let him know that you wish to order a badge and he will sort it out for you. Please mention that you read about the badges on here so he'll make special arrangements to get them for you as soon as possible.

Rather than ask Sandy (who I have no doubt would happily deal with this but has other things to deal with at the moment) I will contact the memorial fund organiser (who I am in touch with) and ask him to send me some badges direct for those keelies who wish one. I will pay for them initially myself (cost is £2.00 + PP) and will only ask same from keelies when I get them. David in India, you will have to send me an address (privately) where I can despatch one to you.(also, I will be in touch by PM regarding the location of the memorial) If I get them soon I will get them to those that wish one, or if later, I can bring them to our night out( curry or other) in April. Please let me know. Ronnie

I recieved the following from badge supplier.
From: The Manager [mailto:manager@shankillmirror.com] Sent: 15 March 2010 16:48 To: Ronnie Subject: Re: Belfast Memorial Unveiling May 2009
Hi Ronnie Many thanks for your email. At present we have NO badges. All 15,000 have gone. I have had some problems with our supplier so have sourced another and have placed an order. As soon as they arrive I will be in touch. Regards John
There you have it, I will get them when the new batch arrives and sort it then.
Ronnie

Regards, Davie. Hi Davie, I received your letter yesterday and I thank you very much for what you enclosed within it. I will send it off ASAP to the 'memorial fund' treasurer with a covering letter to say where it came from. Once they have received it, you should get a letter of acknowledgement from them. When they send me the badges I have ordered I will despatch one to you at the earliest opportunity. Regarding the two questions asked in your letter, I will PM you with the answers. Go easy on the Pimms No 1 when you next meet up with your ex pat pals but don't worry about the mid-day sun; that only affects mad dogs and Englishmen. ;D ;D Aye Ronnie

May I remind you all that this topic is about three young Scots soldiers who were murdered in cold blood so there is no room for discussing swally sessions and passing on 'howdies' to old friends. A bit of respect guys if you don't mind.
