Hi Charlie
didn't know where to post this question so move/delete if neccessary.
Anyway I was at my da's today and we got onto the topic of ww2.
My da was in the HLI regiment after he joined up (1944?)
When the war finished he was transferred to another regiment (liverpool scottish I believe) where they were getting trained up to go over to Japan. VJ day stopped him from going there and he then done a tour of Gibraltar.
After that his next tour was in Palestine before being de-mobbed.
My question - is there a website where I can find out more re my old man in the HLI?

Hi Gibbsy There's some info on HLI at www.lightinfantry.org.uk/regiments/hlli/high_index.htm. My da was also HLI, and finished up at Palestine, but I don't know which battalion/regiment (he died in '78). On the back of one of his HLI pix, D Coy is written, but don't know much else - can't see any insignia when I zoom in on pix. Had a look at a few places on the web, but can't narrow down as I don't have the necessary details. He was in Egypt before Palestine, so guess not the same regiment as your da. I have my da's Palestine Service Medal, pictured here - www.northeastmedals.co.uk/britishguide/general_service_1918.htm - has name, rank & serial number on rim - hope to be able to get further with that. My ma eventually threw out his honourable discharge papers (groan). Think the RHF museum in Sauchiehall St might have HLI records...good luck.
