Where am I; a Parkheed quiz
It’s the year 1960, it’s June and it’s a Friday about 1.00 pm. I am in the district of Parkhead and I am facing North West (roughly). I start to walk and the first smell that I pick up in the light breeze is of carpets and furniture. I cross a road and the breeze carries a smell of iron and other metals, the next smell is mince and tattles mixed in with the smell of custard. Twenty yards further there is a smell of death and disinfectant, then paraffin, then wool, then a door opens and there is a smell of stale beer. Cross another road and the breeze carries another smell of fumes, smoke and dust, then there is a smell to my left of fresh fish then of wood being burnt then fresh fruit and again the smell of stale beer. I then smell an old fashioned musty smell, cross another road and smell Coffey, then fresh bread and cakes, then a mixed smell of ironmongery and other hard ware, then sweets and chocolate. This is followed by hams and cheeses, then butchered meat and sawdust then stale beer again. I cross another road and it’s the smell of wine and whiskey, then newspapers. I cross another road this time I change direction and head South East (roughly) The smells that follow are off money, fruit, medicine, furniture and cloths, newspapers and wool. I again cross a road and it’s a similar old fashioned musty smell then ham and cheese, woven cloth then denim. Further on its fruit, meat, paper and sweets then fresh baking. Then stale beer and fresh fish and dead chickens, then old worn cloths and rags. I turn 45 degrees and look across to where I started from.
Can you name the place where started from and what I walk past
