Hi Amethyst, I was alluding to the Walls of the City of Londonderry which Jack has walked many times as a member of " The Apprentice Boys Of Derry ". Nothing to do with the East End of Glasgow and a pathetic attempt at humour . Mea Culpa.

We moved into our house at 149 Janefield Street on this day in 1964.......45 years ago.
I remember thinking how swanky it was, 2 bedrooms, inside toilet and bath, living room, kitchen, which compared to our room and kitchen in the Gorbals, it probably was.
Happy days.

I remember your uncle, he lived at no. 145 low down, next door to Chic Simpson.
Your uncle certainly had cause to be a bit grumpy with us and one incident in particular. We got a boy called Roderick Mitchelson (sadly dead now) and tied him on to the door handle of your uncle's house. We then kicked the door and scarperred like hell.
The upshot was your uncle I think clipped young Mitchelson round the ear, not seeing him as a victim. Within 5 minutes, Mitchelson's father was over at your uncle's door for an old fashioned 'sterr heid rammy'.
We watched it all unfold with great amusement from the safety of the graveyard wall.
Boys will be boys.

Charlie, feckin magic. I see my old house on the first photie, and its just the way I remember it. Widny mind a copy. The close you can see on the internal corner was mine. It was 149 Janefield Street, our house was the one on the extreme top left you can see, that fronts on to Janefield Street itself. Directly below us was the Ferguson family, whose son Ian, went on to play for Rangers. When the block was almost derelict prior to demolition in 1997, I went down to Janefield Street and took the number '149' off the wall. I still have it to this day. A treasured wee reminder of a chapter in my life I like to refer to as 'The Wonder Years' I hadn't seen my wee '149' number plate around the house for some time, I actually thought I had lost it. Mrs pwm is in the process of getting a new kitchen in, and hey presto, what had fallen behind the radiator, only the '149'. I'm chuffed tae bits to be reunited with my own wee bit of 'Janey' history.

Around 1966/7 there was a terrible fire in Carntyne in which many members of the same family perished. One of our Janefield Street neighbours, Aggie Belshaw was related to this sad family, and took in young Iain Cameron. I believe the funeral left from Janefield Street, and photographs of the event were in the newspapers.
Ian Cameron is my cousin. I was only young when this happened but I remember newspaper reporters coming to our door wanting to interview my Dad (It was his brother). I intend going to the Mitchell to get copies of the newspaper reports for my family research.
