thanks tam I was told my dad was in the royal marines, I did mention it to charlie I think?? my uncle george was in the navy.
the reason I said the photo was taken in the 40s was because on my dads marriage certificate, it gave my mums address as 15 finhaven st, and my dads said engaged in war.
[They were married in 1942.]

Henrietta Mutter sent this photo of her cousin Harry Mutter from the Gorbals (centre of the photo) who was a prisoner of war.

This is my grandfather in his WW1 Royal Engineers uniform (Thomas Ferguson) who im named after ,He was born and stayed in wee Heron st Bridgeton , I was wondering why the royal engineers and not the H.L.I ? as i believe most people joined the H.L.I who stayed in Bridgeton.

Tam each battalion would have a link into an artillery unit, an engineers unit, pioneer corps and whatever else was deemed as back up in their time of conflict. Depending on where they were fighting their uniform would be adapted to suit the terrain...I doubt very much if your Granda went into battle wearing the uniform he dons in the photo.

Cranwell Leave it as it is for now Alice as it is a group photo...any onfo on who is in it and where it was taken.
