My first job was in Templetons Carpet factory on Fordneuk street year 1968 It was like a kind of quality control were you ran your hand through the carpets looking for places were the machine had not weaved, then you trimmed the edges. it was piece work and the money was great . I loved it.

To be truthful Alice and Calamity I think you both might have been a wee bit young to remember these back-court parties referred to as 'clabbers' and to be honest Isabel you must've heard your Maw or yer aulder sister refer to them as 'clabbers'.

The chippie in Fordneuk street was owned by my grandfather, Angelo Fabiani who had it all throught the war years until he died in the early fifties. It passed to his two sons, Medeo and Fernie(my father). My Uncle Medeo and his wife Yolanda(with the red hair) had a daughter Anna(my cousin). They left to live in San Francisco in the mid sixties. Joe and Isa Stuksis lived in Fordneuk st and Isa used to work in the chippie. When I was kid, I used to think it was Finook street because that was how used to pronounce it

That is is interesting about your father being Spanish, I would have loved to ask my dad if he remembered your father, but unfortunately he passed away a few years ago.My mother might remember though.I remember there was quite a little community of Italians in Bridgeton/Dalmarnock back then, but I don't remember there being many Spanish. My Dad left the Fordneuk st/Broad street chippie in 1960 I think, after he fell out with my uncle and he eventually ran a chippie in the Main street for many years.
